Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 422 people in a regular citywide drive over the past 24 hours and filed 89 cases during the same period, according to a DMP statement issued on Thursday.
The arrests were made during operations conducted across different police station areas in the capital by DMP’s crime and detective units, which also recovered firearms, narcotics and other items.
According to the DMP, the arrestees included 44 from Ramna Division, 19 from Lalbagh Division, 55 from Wari Division, 43 from Motijheel Division, 82 from Tejgaon Division, 96 from Mirpur Division, 34 from Gulshan Division and five by the Detective Branch.
Items seized during the operations included 1.355 kg of cannabis, 10,524 yaba tablets, 53 grams of heroin, one shotgun, one knife, one iron rod, one screwdriver, one hacksaw blade, one laptop, one solid-state drive (SSD), 15 mobile phones, 160 SIM cards, one private car, one truck, one school bag and Tk 2,880 in cash.
DMP said legal proceedings against the arrestees were underway.
