BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Ferdousy Ahmed Misty has submitted her resignation letter to the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad.
After meeting with the Speaker, she left the parliament building on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman instructed Ferdousy to resign following the attack on the Radda Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka. BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the information to TIMES.
The prime minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli also informed the media of the matter.
The Radda Centre in Mirpur was attacked, vandalised and looted around midnight on 24 September. Allegations subsequently emerged of the involvement of leaders and activists of the ruling party at various levels.
According to media reports, Ferdousy faced controversy and allegations over her past political activities. During her time as a ward councillor, she was accused of extortion, terrorism and land grabbing, among other offences.
These allegations had repeatedly raised questions about her political role and activities.
