Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad on Thursday said the government would not discriminate against anyone in recruitment or any other area on the basis of political identity.
He made the remarks at an urgent press conference at the Secretariat while clarifying the government’s position over confusion surrounding the gazette notification for the 49th BCS (Special Education) cadre.
Referring to reports circulated in newspapers and on social media over recommendations by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and subsequent gazette notifications, Salahuddin said the PSC had recommended 665 candidates.
He said reports claiming that 668 candidates had been recommended were incorrect.
According to the minister, three candidates were dropped after failing to submit required certificates, while eight others were excluded because they were absent on the day of the physical fitness test.
This left 657 candidates eligible for appointment through gazette notification.
Salahuddin said gazette notifications had already been issued for 611 candidates, leaving 46 still awaiting publication.
Referring to a former office-bearer of a banned student organisation at a Dhaka University hall who reportedly threatened self-immolation in a Facebook post after being omitted from the first gazette, the minister said such notifications were not always issued in a single phase.
He said appointments could be gazetted in stages and added that the deadline for joining remained open until 12 October.
The minister said background verification and administrative procedures for the remaining 46 candidates were in their final stages.
Their gazette notification would be published next Monday, he added.
Salahuddin urged all concerned not to create unrest or political instability at universities and other educational institutions by spreading what he described as propaganda and misinformation.
He also called on jobseekers to remain patient.
