At least three members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been injured after being ambushed by suspected drug traders while collecting intelligence information in the Masdair area of Narayanganj, officials said.
The attack took place at approximately 12:30 pm on Tuesday in the Boaliakhali area under Fatulla Police Station. According to RAB sources, an intelligence team was gathering crucial information regarding local drug traders and drug spots when they were suddenly and systematically attacked by identified drug peddlers.
RAB officials described the assault as an “unexpected, barbaric, and cowardly attack” carried out by organised criminals. The three injured personnel sustained physical injuries and wounds during the confrontation.
The wounded RAB members were quickly rescued from the scene and admitted to a hospital for primary treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that they are currently under observation.
Despite the injuries, RAB said the sacrifice of its personnel in the fight against drugs has only strengthened the force’s resolve.
“Such sacrifice by RAB members in this noble fight against drugs has further strengthened RAB’s morale,” the elite anti-crime unit said in a statement.
RAB made it clear that no criminal will be allowed to escape justice by attacking law enforcement agencies. The force warned that assaults on security personnel would not go unpunished.
A large-scale operation is currently ongoing in the area to apprehend every individual involved in the attack, including the suspected masterminds.
Security has been stepped up in the Masdair and Boaliakhali areas as RAB teams continue their search for the fleeing suspects. Authorities have urged local residents to cooperate with the operation.
RAB reiterated that its firm stance on building a drug-free society will continue unabated in the future. The force has called on the public to provide any information that may assist in identifying and locating the attackers.
