The nomination papers of three candidates contesting the Khulna-1 constituency have been cancelled, while the candidatures of two others have been temporarily suspended following scrutiny.
Khulna Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer ASM Jamshed Khondker disclosed the information on Thursday afternoon.
He said out of the 13 candidates who submitted nomination papers, nine were found eligible and declared valid.
The returning officer said the candidature of Gano Odhikar Parishad nominee GM Roknuzzaman was cancelled as he is registered as a voter in another constituency.
The nominations of two independent candidates, Gobinda Halder and Achintya Kumar Mondal, were also declared invalid after irregularities were detected in the mandatory signatures of one percent of voters, as required under the Representation of the People Order (RPO).
Another independent candidate, Abu Sayeed, had his candidature suspended for 12 hours for failing to submit an income tax certificate within the stipulated time, the returning officer added.
The scrutiny of nomination papers was conducted as part of the election process for the Khulna-1 parliamentary seat.
