Three people were killed on Thursday night when a passenger bus collided with an auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabdi upazila.
The incident occurred around 11:30pm in the Rainadi area, according to the police.
The deceased have been identified as Siam Mia, 22; Sabbir Hossain, 28; and Fahim Mia, 30, the auto-rickshaw driver. All three were residents of Rainadi village in Nuralapur Union, Sadar upazila.
Relatives said the victims were returning home from Madhabdi when a bus bound for Sylhet crashed into their auto-rickshaw, leaving them critically injured.
Itakhola Highway OC Monir Hossain reported that two victims died at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
Police have recovered the bodies and impounded the bus, although the driver and assistant fled the scene, the OC added.
