A Dhaka court on Sunday sent three people, including former Slogan 71 General Secretary Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi, to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Shahbagh Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after police produced the accused before the court.

The two other accused are former Dhaka University Shahidullah Hall Chhatra League Employment Affairs Secretary Md Asif Ahmed Saikat and Abdul Al Mamun.

Investigating officer and Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Ashadul Islam produced them before the court and sought an order to keep them in jail during the investigation.

According to the case statement, around 3pm on Saturday some members of banned organisations including Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League gathered near the Shahidullah Hall crossing under Shahbagh Police Station and played the 7 March speech through a microphone.

It should be noted that the interim government had banned all activities of Awami League and its associate bodies.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information and caught Asif Ahmed Saikat with the help of local people while he was trying to flee.

The case also states that around 9:20pm the same day Abdul Al Mamun and Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi, along with 10 to 15 unidentified people, gathered in front of gate number one of the National Museum.

While Tarawih prayers were underway at the Shahbagh Police Station mosque, the accused allegedly shouted provocative slogans using loudspeakers facing the mosque.

They also attempted to reactivate activities of banned organisations and obstructed police duties, according to the case statement.

The accused also tried to free Saikat from police custody.

A group of students led by Dhaka University Ducsu representative AB Jubayer and Mohammad Mosaddek later detained Abdul Al Mamun and Emi handed them over to police.

Police filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Shahbagh Police Station on Sunday and showed the three accused arrested in the case before producing them in court.

The court later ordered that they be sent to jail.
