Bongshal Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested three individuals involved in the murder of Jagannath University student Md Jobayed Hossain (25) by conducting raids in various locations of the capital.
The arrested individuals are: Md Mahir Rahman (19), Barjis Shabnam Borsha (19), and Fardin Ahammed Aylan (20).
The murder took place around 4:30pm on Sunday at the bottom of the staircase of Roushan Villa, Holding No 15, Nur Box Lane, under Ward No 31 of Bongshal Police Station.
At a press conference held at the Media Center on Tuesday afternoon, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, SN Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), informed that Md Mahir Rahman had been in a romantic relationship with Borjis Shabnam Borsha for one and a half years.
Md Jobayed Hossain had been tutoring Borsha at her home for almost a year, and at one point, both became involved in a romantic relationship. About a month before the incident, Mahir learned about the romantic relationship between Jobayed and Borsha. Mahir could not accept this matter, and following this, Mahir and Borsha had an argument.
At one stage of the incident, Borsha instigated Mahir to kill Jobayed, and they made multiple plans to kill Jobayed. Borsha regularly informed Mahir about when Jobayed came to tutor and when he left. Mahir informed his friend Aylan about the murder plan, and the two of them bought a switch gear knife for Tk500 from Aganagar Bou Bazar, South Keraniganj area.
On the day of the incident, Sunday, 19 October, around 4:30pm, when Jobayed went to Roushan Villa, Holding No 15, Nur Box Lane, under Ward No. 31 of Bongshal Police Station for tutoring, Md Mahir Rahman, Borsha’s former lover, and his friend Fardin Ahammed Aylan, who were lying in wait beforehand at the bottom of the building’s staircase, confronted
Jobayed as he arrived.
Mahir questioned Jobayed about his romantic relationship with Borsha. An argument ensued, and then Mahir took out the switch gear knife from his bag and stabbed Jobayed on the right side of his neck, killing him. Borsha was standing on the third floor during the entire murder incident.
Sources from Bongshal Police Station further revealed that Mahir Rahman was arrested during a raid in the Bhangna area of South Keraniganj around 8pm on Monday. Bongshal Police arrested Borgis Shabnam Borsha from her home around 10:30pm on Sunday.
Fardin Ahammed Aylan was arrested during a raid in the Shantinagar area of Chameli Bagh, Paltan, around 10:30pm on Monday.
