Nearly two decades after its 2008 release, Chris Carter’s director’s cut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe — Vrach Frankenshteyn is finally reaching audiences.
The film will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on 14 August, reports Deadline, as Hulu also develops an X-Files reboot with Ryan Coogler.
Carter directed and co-wrote the supernatural thriller with Fran Spotnitz.
The sequel to the 1998 film arrived six years after the original series ended, with David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi returning as Mulder, Scully and Skinner.
The story follows them investigating an FBI agent’s disappearance after mysterious abductions, guided by a disgraced former priest with disturbing psychic visions.
Carter’s new cut restores darker horror elements removed for a PG-13 rating and draws on Dr Frankenstein.
Meanwhile, Coogler’s reboot stars Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, with Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D Montgrand and Sofia Grace Clifton.
