Teenager held for allegedly raping 7yr-old in Rangamati

Police have detained a 13-year-old boy on charges of raping a seven-year-old child in Rangamati town.

The suspect, identified as Abdur Rahman Munna, was apprehended on Friday afternoon from the town’s Old Bosti area following a tip-off. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the detention.

According to local sources, the victim and her parents reside as tenants in the house of Shahjalal Suman, a teacher at Rangamati Lakers Public School and College, located in the Government Mohila College area.

The suspect is reportedly the cousin of the teacher. The incident occurred at approximately 8pm on Thursday when the teenager allegedly took the child to his room while she was playing in front of the house.

The child’s family became aware of the assault after noticing she was bleeding, and she was subsequently rushed to Rangamati General Hospital at around 8:45 PM that night.

Shawkat Akbar Khan, Resident Physician at the hospital, stated that the victim was provided with primary treatment before being referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

OC Mohammad Jasim Uddin added that legal action will be taken once a formal case is filed by the victim’s family.
