Members of the Bangladesh Army arrested Abul Hasnat, chief of a teen gang known as “Hasnat Bahini”, in Cox’s Bazar town on Sunday.
The arrest was made during a raid at his residence in Dakkhin Rumaliar Chhara of Cox’s Bazar town around 5:30am.
During the search of his home, two sharp weapons and 50 grams of cannabis were seized.
According to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Army, Hasnat is a drug dealer and accused in cases related to terrorism, murder, robbery, and extortion. Nineteen cases have been filed against him at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station.
Following his arrest, Hasnat was handed over to the police.
The army’s statement noted that the ‘Hasnat Bahini’ has been conducting criminal activities in the town and beach areas for a long time.
The gang had been under surveillance for a period prior to the operation.
Regular drives will continue to apprehend such teenage gang members, the army said.
