Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned motorcycle and private car processions in connection with a reception programme for BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, citing security and traffic management concerns.
The restriction was announced in a press release issued on Wednesday. The police also prohibited participants from carrying bags, sticks, or any flammable materials at the event venue.
The directive, signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzad Ali, includes special traffic arrangements for 25 December, with movement restrictions on several key roads in the capital from 8am to 10pm. Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.
According to the advisory, vehicles have been asked to avoid the road from the airport through Kuril to the Purbachal Expressway during the restricted hours.
As alternative routes, vehicles travelling from Abdullahpur to Gabtoli have been advised to use the Kamarpara–Dhour Bridge–Panchabati–Mirpur Beribandh route. Residents of Uttara and Mirpur have been urged to avoid Airport Road and instead use roads via House Building, Jamjam Tower, Sector 12, Khalpar, Mirpur DOHS and Mirpur Beribandh.
Traffic from Gulshan and Banani has been directed to use Kakoli–Gulshan-2–Kamal Ataturk Avenue instead of travelling through Gulshan-1 and Police Plaza towards Mohakhali.
Vehicles entering Dhaka from Kanchan Bridge have been advised to pass through the Bashundhara Residential Area and use Madani Avenue, while vehicles heading towards Gabtoli from Mohakhali may use the Mirpur–Gabtoli Road via the Mohakhali Bus Terminal.
Additionally, vehicles from Tejgaon and Mirpur areas may travel to Uttara via Mirpur DOHS and roads beneath the Metro Rail.
The DMP also advised outbound air passengers to leave for the airport well in advance and avoid unnecessary companions. Commuters have been encouraged to use trains on the Dhaka-Joydebpur route and the Metro Rail for travel within the city.
