Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the BNP, will return to Bangladesh before the elections and participate in the upcoming polls, confirmed the party’s International Affairs Secretary and Tarique’s adviser Barrister MA Salam.
In a press briefing at a hotel in Sylhet on Monday afternoon, Salam shared that the party leadership is closely overseeing Tarique Rahman’s return and his safety. He also mentioned that discussions are underway with the government regarding his return.
Salam stated, “Under his leadership, the party remains united. If the people grant BNP a mandate in the next election, Tarique Rahman will take the responsibility of leading the country.”
Commenting on the proportional representation (PR) system, he added, “A political party demanding PR representation in Parliament is out of touch with the reality of this country. The concept of PR is not familiar to the people here, so the public will not accept such an unwarranted demand.”
Salam emphasised, “If our leader Tarique Rahman’s 31-point agenda is implemented, Bangladesh will become a prosperous, dignified, and democratic country, where the aspirations of the common people will be fulfilled.”
He also expressed confidence in receiving the party’s nomination for the Sylhet-3 constituency, given his strong connection with the people in the area.
