BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman left Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Friday after paying tribute at the grave of his father, former president and party founder Ziaur Rahman.
According to the BNP Media Cell, Tarique Rahman was scheduled to proceed to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to honour the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Ahead of his visit, tight security measures have been put in place by law enforcement agencies in and around the National Martyrs’ Memorial. Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police Arafatul Islam said that 1,100 police personnel have been deployed in the memorial area.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the army are also on duty to ensure security.
Public Works Department Sub-Assistant Engineer Anwar Hossain Khan Anu, in charge of the memorial, said entry to the site has been restricted since the morning.

Journalists were allowed access until 9am. The Chairperson Security Force (CSF) will oversee the overall security during the programme.

BNP leaders and activists from across the country have already gathered outside the memorial in anticipation of Tarique Rahman’s visit. Authorities said the memorial will be reopened to the public once the BNP acting chairman completes his programme.
