The Cabinet Division’s website presents a digital anachronism, suggesting that deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina remains the president of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reform (NICAR).
This discrepancy was found on Wednesday, immediately following the committee’s approval of three new upazilas and one new police station.
As the government’s highest policy-making administrative body, NICAR is responsible for critical structural reforms. Its mandate includes the formation of new divisions, districts, upazilas, and police stations, as well as the determination of geographical boundaries.
However, the political reality has shifted significantly since the July 2024 mass uprising led to the fall of the Hasina regime. Following the transition, an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus reconstituted NICAR on 7 May 2025, naming Yunus as the convener.
The administrative landscape changed again with the arrival of the BNP government. On 5 March this year, the committee was reformed once more, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman appointed as its head.
Despite these successive changes in leadership, the Cabinet Division has failed to update its official portal. The presence of outdated information on such a high-level committee continues to create widespread confusion.
