Mirza Mehdi Tamal, City Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin, has been re-elected president of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB), while MM Badshah of Bangla TV has been elected general secretary.
The results were announced on Sunday night after voting concluded at the Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium in Segunbagicha.
Voting was held from 9am to 4:30pm, with 284 of the 299 listed voters casting ballots; five votes were declared invalid.
The election steering committee was chaired by senior journalist Abu Taher, with CRAB member Ahmad Atik serving as member secretary. A total of 23 candidates contested the polls for president, general secretary and other posts.
In the presidential race, Mirza Mehdi Tamal secured 145 votes, defeating rival Alauddin Arif, who received 130 votes.
For the general secretary post, MM Badshah won with 119 votes. His nearest rival Sirajul Islam secured 114 votes, while Hasan Uz Zaman received 42 votes.
Shahidul Islam Raji was elected joint secretary with 147 votes, defeating Niaz Ahmed Labu, who secured 126 votes. Nihal Hasnain was elected organising secretary with 156 votes, while Amanur Rahman Roni received 119 votes.
Aminul Islam was elected finance secretary with 174 votes, defeating Md Emdadul Haque Khan, who received 88 votes. Ismail Hossain Imu was elected office secretary with 153 votes, while SM Faiz secured 116 votes.
Four candidates contested for three executive member posts. Abu Hena Russell topped the list with 213 votes, followed by Aiyub Ansari with 134 votes and Mahbub Alam with 131 votes. Another candidate, Harlal Ray Sagar, received 129 votes.
Zia Khan was elected vice-president, Mahmud Sohel publicity and publication secretary, Md Abu Zafar sports and cultural secretary, Shahriar Zaman Dip training and information technology secretary, Sheikh Kalimullah Nayan law and welfare secretary, and Habibullah Mizan international secretary—all elected unopposed.
The newly elected committee will lead the organisation for the next one year.
