An allegation has surfaced regarding the death of a Bangladeshi named Rabiul Islam in BSF custody after he illegally entered India through the Chapainawabganj border. However, no formal information has been received from the family or BGB regarding how he died.
A flag meeting between BGB and BSF has been held regarding this incident. In the flag meeting, BSF informed that he died due to illness. Locals are saying that Rabiul died due to torture by BSF after being detained by them. The deceased Rabiul Islam (35) was the son of Nizam Uddin from Satrashia village, Narayanpur union, Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
It has been learned from BGB, local representatives, and local residents that around 4:30am on Saturday night, three Bangladeshis entered the Nurpur area of Murshidabad district, India, with the intention of cattle smuggling, through the area of International Border Pillar 19/7 S. At that time, members of the Patla Tola sub-camp of BSF in the Raghunathganj police station area chased them. While the others managed to flee, Rabiul was caught by BSF.
After his detention, news of his death spread in the area this morning. However, Rabiul’s family lodged a complaint with BGB in the afternoon. Regarding this, UP member of Ward No 2 of Narayanpur union, Ramzan Ali, said, three people went to India to bring cattle in the early morning.
Later, I learned that Rabiul Islam was detained by BSF. After that, I got the news of his death through various means. However, he claims that Rabiul died due to torture after detention.
Regarding this, Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, commander of 53 BGB, said, after receiving the complaint from the family, a flag meeting was held at 6pm to inquire with BSF. In the flag meeting, BSF informed that Rabiul was detained while he was shirtless and wearing shorts. At that time, his entire body was wet with water.
Later, after taking him to the camp, although he was given clothes, he started having convulsions. At that time, he was taken to the hospital where he died. BSF has informed that his body will be handed over on Monday.
According to the information provided by BSF, preliminary reports indicate his death was due to illness. However, it will only be confirmed whether there is any other reason behind this death after receiving the body back.
