A woman has surrendered to the police after contacting National Emergency Service 999 to confess to killing her husband by drugging him and striking his head with a brick whilst he slept in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh area.
The caller, identified as 40-year-old Rehena Akter, made the confession on Thursday.
According to records from the 999 service, the call was placed at approximately 12pm on Thursday from Nandipara Boromoshjid area.
Rehena reported that on the preceding night, she had administered sleeping pills to her husband, Mahfuzur Rahman, 40. Once he fell asleep, she struck him on the head with a brick, causing his death.
The emergency call was received by 999 Call Taker Constable Arif Hossain.
Following the call, the 999 desk immediately notified Sabujbagh Police Station to initiate the required action. The subsequent co-ordination and supervision with the police station were managed by 999 Police Dispatcher Sub-Inspector (SI) Awlad Hossain.
Preliminary information from the police indicates that Rehena was provoked to commit the murder due to domestic disputes and allegations regarding her husband’s extramarital affairs with other women.
A dispatch team from Sabujbagh Police Station arrived at the scene and arrested Rehena Akter. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway.
