United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) appointed Sufia Akter as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) where she will lead the bank’s Wholesale Banking Division, marking a significant step in its ongoing transformation and growth.
Before joining UCB, she played a pivotal role at Bank Asia in establishing the Transaction Banking Department under the Corporate & Investment Banking Division, contributing significantly to achieving remarkable business growth within a short period, said a press release on Thursday.
With more than 26 years of experience, she has worked at leading global and local financial institutions, including HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, The City Bank, Meghna Bank and Bank Asia.
She has successfully led business transformation initiatives, built high-performing teams and achieved sustainable business growth. She brings extensive expertise in Corporate Banking, Transaction Banking, Cash Management, Trade Finance, Treasury Solutions and Working Capital Financing.
She is a graduate of the globally recognised Future CEO Programme and the Future CEO Leadership Recharge Programme (WSDA New Zealand). The training has further strengthened her strategic leadership, global perspective and executive decision-making capabilities.
