The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Mohammad Tajul Islam, has stated that the evidence presented so far is sufficient to prove the allegations against Sheikh Hasina.
The chief prosecutor provided this information while speaking to journalists at the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday afternoon.
He further informed that in the case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun for crimes against humanity, testimony from a few more witnesses will be taken before concluding the testimony process.
That day, after the testimony of Mahmudur Rahman, editor of the daily “Amar Desh” newspaper, the Chief Prosecutor briefed journalists.
Mahmudur Rahman stated, “Sheikh Hasina harbored intense hostility towards the army and the judiciary, and due to her hostility, the BDR massacre occurred. She did everything to destroy the judiciary. Judges became chief justices only after listening to her. Additionally, a planned mob culture was created at Shahbagh to execute several people.”
Mahmudur Rahman testified that day before the three-member tribunal led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumdar, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1.
Meanwhile, Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), will testify on Tuesday.
Prior to this, as of September 9, six witnesses testified on the 14th day of the case. So far, 45 witnesses have testified. The testimonies have described the genocide across the country in July-August 2024.
Families of the martyrs and eyewitnesses have demanded exemplary punishment for the accused, including Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
In this case, charges have been brought under five counts. The prosecution has filed formal charges spanning 8,747 pages. This includes 2,018 pages of sources, 4,058 pages of seizure lists and documentary evidence, and 2,724 pages of details of the list of martyrs. There are 81 witnesses.
