In a landmark moment for Bangladeshi golf, the country hosted its first-ever professional inter-club golf tournament, bringing together players from 17 golf clubs nationwide. The event, held at the Kurmitola Golf Course, known as the “Home of Golf”, concluded with the host club lifting the championship trophy.
Kurmitola Golf Club’s team of professional golfers, Mohammad Russell, Md. Babul Hossain, Md. Liton Miah, and Md. Abdur Rahman, clinched the title with a score of 36-over par. Army Golf Club finished as runners-up with a score of 39-over par, while BPGA (G-Team) secured third place at 40-over par.
The Army Golf Club team featured Sabuj Hossain, Md. Zia, Md. Raju, and Md. Sujon. The BPGA’s G-Team was represented by Md. Shajamal, Md. Munna, Mehedi Hasan, and Mohammad Musa.
Speaking after the win, Kurmitola’s Mohammad Russell expressed pride in both the victory and the occasion:
“It feels amazing to be part of the first-ever tournament of this kind. What makes it even more special is that we became champions in this historic first edition. We are now part of history. If such tournaments are held regularly, local professional golfers like us will be able to better understand our abilities. This kind of competition will help take Bangladeshi golf forward.”
The tournament has been widely praised for its competitive spirit and is being hailed as a significant step in developing professional golf in Bangladesh.
