BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that a strong media plays a vital role in strengthening democracy, adding that the success of democracy is closely linked with the effectiveness of the media.
“Media becomes stronger, democracy also becomes stronger. The success of democracy depends on the success of the media,” he said while speaking at a programme in Thakurgaon on Friday.
He made the remarks while exchanging greetings with the newly elected committee of the Thakurgaon Press Club at the Anisul Haque Auditorium.
Fakhrul said a strong, independent and responsible media is one of the key foundations of democracy.
Through truthful and objective reporting, the media acts as a bridge between the state, government and citizens.
He also stressed the need to ensure media freedom alongside professional responsibility to strengthen democratic institutions.
Members of the newly elected Thakurgaon Press Club committee, journalists from various media outlets, and local dignitaries were present at the event.
