Superintendents of Police (SPs) for all 64 districts have been finalised for duties during the upcoming national parliamentary polls.
The postings of the SPs were determined through a lottery at the Jamuna residence of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Monday. Their official appointments will be issued in phases soon.
Multiple senior officials from the Home Ministry and Police Headquarters have confirmed the development.
The lottery was attended by acting IGP and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Mohammed Sazzat Ali, along with top officials from the Home Ministry and representatives from the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Later in the evening, the DMP commissioner said, “The government’s objective is to deploy neutral officers in every district to ensure a fair election.
“To prevent any questions regarding the postings, the SPs have been selected through a transparent lottery in accordance with high-level decisions. The process for their immediate posting will begin soon.”
Multiple officials from Police Headquarters indicated that a “fit list” had been prepared after vetting officers from the 25th, 27th, and 28th batches of the police cadre. The 64 officers were selected from this list through a manual lottery.
Following the SP postings, the next phase will involve conducting a lottery for the appointment of officers-in-charge (OCs) at police stations.
This development follows a two-hour meeting at the Home Ministry on Saturday afternoon, where policies concerning police appointments and transfers during the election period were discussed.
The lottery for the 64 SPs was conducted as a continuation of those discussions.
