The Bangladesh Police Service Association has strongly condemned recent remarks made by a former member of Parliament regarding police protocol and case filing, which have gone viral on social media.
During a political rally last Saturday, the former parliamentarian was recorded stating, “We must bring the administration under our control in respective constituencies.
“They will act on our instructions – they will make arrests based on our words, file cases based on our words. Police must follow behind you, and the officer-in-charge will learn about your programme in the morning and provide you protocol.”
In a press release issued on Monday, the association described these comments as excessive political statements concerning a vital state institution such as the police.
In its statement, the association emphasised that Bangladesh Police operate under the Constitution and statutory laws.
It noted that while some ambitious members of the police had contributed to creating distance between the force and the public by allowing political use of the institution over the past 17 years, the Bangladesh Police has been performing its duties with utmost neutrality and efficiency since the 5 August student-public uprising.
The statement further highlighted that the police are not taking action in favour of or against any political party or ideology. Instead, by remaining politically neutral, the force has transformed into a police service that reflects public aspirations.
With the 13th National Parliamentary Election scheduled for February 2026, the police are committed to performing their duties with strict neutrality. The days of serving as party subordinates to fulfil political ambitions are long gone, the association stated.
The Bangladesh Police Service Association firmly stated that the police force performs its duties guided by statutory laws and public welfare, believing only in a culture of accountability to the people.
The association expressed its strong condemnation and protest against such derogatory remarks aimed at the police by political leaders.
