The government has appointed Supreme Court lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulu as the Special Public Prosecutor to represent the state in the Ramisa murder trial.
The Solicitor Wing of the Ministry of Law issued the official order on Saturday.
The notification states that the appointment falls under Section 492 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Azizur Rahman Dulu will handle the case currently before the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Suppression Tribunal until further notice. The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.
The case concerns the death of eight-year-old Ramisa, whose body was discovered beneath a bed in a flat in Pallabi, Mirpur, on 19 May. Following the discovery, police filed a murder case at Pallabi Police Station.
Authorities have detained Sohel Rana and his wife, Swapna Akter, in connection with the incident. Sohel Rana has provided a confessional statement in court, admitting to raping and murdering the child.
