The Bangladesh Cricket Board election on 7 June will feature contested votes in three divisional seats under Category-1 and across the club category, following the publication of the preliminary list of valid nominations by the Election Commission on Saturday.
According to the list, 13 candidates have filed valid nominations for 10 director posts in Category-1, while 18 candidates are competing for 12 seats in Category-2, representing Dhaka-based clubs.
Chattogram division will be one of the most closely watched contests. Former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin Nannu is among three candidates competing for two available seats, alongside Moin Uddin Chowdhury and Shariful Islam. In Khulna, three candidates will contest two posts, with Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam and Mohammad Abdus Salam all in the race. Barishal will see a straight head-to-head between Muntasir Alam Chowdhury and Mizanur Rahman for a single seat.
The remaining divisions will not go to a vote. Dhaka has two valid candidates for two seats, Sayeed Bin Zaman and SM Abdullah Al Fuad, who are set to be returned unopposed unless an objection is raised before the deadline. Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet each received only one valid nomination, meaning those candidates will also become directors without a contest.
The club category will be the most competitive element of the election, with 18 candidates chasing 12 available positions. Among the notable names in Category-2 are current BCB ad hoc committee chairman Tamim Iqbal, fellow committee members Fahim Sinha, Israfil Khosru, Mirza Yasser Abbas, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Rafiqul Islam Babu, as well as Shanian Taneem, Masuduzzaman, Borhanul Hossain and Lutfar Rahman Badal.
In Category-3, experienced sports organiser Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir is the sole valid candidate and will be elected as director unopposed.
The full election, covering directors, president and vice-president, takes place in the BCB board room on 7 June, with results to be announced the same day.
