A special meeting of the interim government’s Advisory Council was held on Saturday morning at the Chief Adviser’s Office, chaired by Muhammad Yunus.
Prayers, conducted by Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain, were offered at the meeting for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The meeting approved in principle the draft Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
The amendment brings changes to several sections of the existing law, simplifies the rules for NGO registration, and eases the conditions for the release of funds. The law has been made more stakeholder-friendly, including no approval requirement for grants of up to Tk50 lakh per year.
Additionally, the draft of the Police Commission Ordinance, 2025, was presented at the meeting. The Advisory Council directed that the ordinance be presented in a more detailed and amended form at the next council meeting.
At the meeting, Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Asif Nazrul informed the council that the remaining 24 individuals, who were detained at different times over allegations of involvement in the July uprising in the Arab Emirates, will be released soon.
He stated that they will return to Bangladesh within the next two to three days.
