Bangladesh booked their place in the Plate final of the Hong Kong Sixes on Saturday with a 25-run victory over South Africa, powered by a blistering innings from Habibur Rahman Sohan.
After losing the toss, Akbar Ali’s side were sent in to bat and posted 128 for three from their six overs. Sohan led the charge with a breathtaking 54 off just 13 balls, striking eight sixes and one four in a display of clean hitting that tore apart the South African attack.
Zisan Alam added 24 from seven balls, including four sixes, while Mosaddek Hossain Saikat contributed 27 from eight deliveries with three fours and two sixes. Jordan Morris was the most successful South African bowler, taking two wickets.
In reply, South Africa fell short at 103 for six despite a spirited effort from Abdulha Bayoumi, who smashed 38 from 10 balls, and Jarich von Schalkwyk, who made 28 off nine.
Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained control in the high-scoring contest, with Abu Hider Rony and Zisan Alam each claiming two wickets. Rakibul Hasan and captain Akbar Ali took one apiece to seal the win.
The result sends Bangladesh through to the Plate final, capping a dominant all-round display highlighted by Sohan’s explosive hitting and disciplined bowling under pressure.
