Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT), a leading specialised higher education institution in Bangladesh, organised a special exhibition titled “From Concept to Creation: Denim Diversification and Smart Apparel Innovation Exhibition” on Saturday.
The event aimed to showcase emerging opportunities in apparel innovation, technology-driven smart apparel design, and sustainable development, reads a press release.
The day-long exhibition, held at Creative – The Art Gallery in Uttara, was organised by the Department of Apparel Manufacturing Management and Technology (AMMT).
This marked the second such initiative by the department to highlight the integration of innovative concepts and technological capabilities intended to strengthen the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Member Prof Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossen inaugurated the event as the chief guest. In his remarks, he commended the students for their innovative ideas and creative initiatives.
The exhibition was also attended by Xia Daojing, Third Secretary of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh; renowned artist and SMUCT Trustee Board Chairman Prof Mostafizul Haque, and SMUCT Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Shah-E-Alam.
The programme was chaired by Faculty of Design and Technology Dean Prof Shishir Kumar Bhattacharya.
Other attendees included Registrar Dr Par Mashiur Rahman, along with various deans, department heads, and faculty members. The event was moderated by Engr Riasad Bin Kabir, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Prof and Department Coordinator Rajib Das.
The exhibition featured a diverse range of student projects focusing on denim product diversification, sustainable development, and contemporary fashion innovations.
Speaking on the occasion Associate Prof and AMMT Department Head Farzana Mita said, “This exhibition showcases our students’ research-based innovations, creativity, and capabilities in technology-driven apparel development.”
“We believe this initiative will also strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while promoting new ideas in Bangladesh’s apparel sector,” she added.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to representatives from the apparel industry, researchers, and media professionals for their support of the event.
