A prayer gathering was organised by the authorities of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) to seek forgiveness and eternal peace for the departed soul of the late Professor Muhammad Abdul Halim Sheikh, the university’s designated treasurer.
The solemn event took place on Wednesday at the university auditorium, where participants paid tribute to the professor’s distinguished professional career.
The gathering was attended by the late professor’s family, including his eldest son, Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Qaiyum Sheikh, and his younger son, Mufti Saad Sheikh, read a press release.
Also in attendance were the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, eminent artist Professor Mostafizul Haque; Board of Trustees Member Afrooza Begum; Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shah-E-Alam; and the Registrar, Dr Par Mashiur Rahman.
They were joined by deans, heads of departments, faculty members, officers, staff, and students of the university.
The programme commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcome address delivered by Registrar Dr Par Mashiur Rahman.
During the Doa Mahfil, special prayers were offered to Almighty Allah, seeking the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous for the deceased.
Professor Dr Muhammad Abdul Halim Sheikh, aged 78, passed away on Monday, 27 July, at approximately 9pm at his residence in Banani DOHS.
His first Janazah (funeral prayer) was held on the university campus the following morning, followed by a second Janazah in the vicinity of his residence. He was subsequently laid to rest at Azimpur Graveyard.
Since joining SMUCT in 2013, Professor Sheikh served the institution with dedication and distinction in various key roles.
Prior to his tenure as designated treasurer, he made significant contributions as adviser to the chairman of the board of trustees, dean of several faculties, head of Department, and faculty member.
