The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced a tax rebate of up to 5 per cent, with a maximum benefit of Tk25,000, for individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) taxpayers who submit their income tax returns between 1 July and 30 September.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the revenue authority said eligible taxpayers filing returns within the stipulated period will receive a rebate equivalent to 5 per cent of their payable tax under Section 173 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, subject to the Tk25,000 ceiling.
The NBR said no tax incentive will be provided for returns submitted from 1 October to 31 December.
Under Section 173(2) of the law, taxpayers submitting returns between 1 January and 31 March will have to pay an additional amount equivalent to 2 per cent of the payable tax or Tk3,000, whichever is higher.
For returns filed between 1 April and 30 June, the additional tax will be 5 per cent of the payable tax or Tk5,000, whichever is higher.
The NBR said the incentive has been introduced to encourage taxpayers to file returns voluntarily and earlier, helping improve tax compliance and ensure a more efficient tax administration system.
The revenue authority also said it launched its e-Return service for the 2026-27 tax year on 22 July, allowing taxpayers to submit returns online through the NBR’s e-tax portal.
Taxpayers can pay their taxes through bank transfers, debit and credit cards, and digital payment platforms such as bKash, Nagad and Rocket.
After submitting accurate information, taxpayers will be able to instantly receive acknowledgement receipts and tax certificates through the online system.
The NBR said its officials will provide support through call centres and other electronic channels during office hours on working days to assist taxpayers facing difficulties with online return submission.
The board urged all eligible taxpayers to file their income tax returns by 30 September to avail themselves of the rebate facility.
