Liverpool manager Arne Slot insists he has no concerns over Mohamed Salah’s recent dip in form, backing the Egyptian to return to his prolific best despite a six-game goal drought.
Salah has not scored a Premier League goal from open play since the opening weekend of the season and was left out of the starting line-up for Liverpool’s 5–1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek. He was also substituted late in last week’s 2–1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield after missing two key chances.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brentford, Slot said he was unconcerned by Salah’s struggles in front of goal. “In football, players miss chances, and Mo is a human being as well. We’re just not used to him missing a few games in a row, but it happens,” said the Dutchman.
Salah, who won the Premier League Golden Boot last season, has scored only twice in eight league appearances this campaign. Yet Slot remains confident his forward will soon be firing again. “The last thing I’m worried about is Mo scoring goals. That’s what he’s done throughout his career, and I expect him to keep doing it in the coming weeks and months,” he said.
Liverpool, who lifted the Premier League title last season, spent around £450 million on new signings during the summer. However, injuries and squad changes have forced Slot to reshuffle his team, particularly at right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid. Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has been among those filling the role.
Slot acknowledged that such adjustments have affected the team’s rhythm — including Salah’s link-up play on the right. “He’s been getting into good positions, but maybe with Trent, he had more of that understanding,” Slot noted. “When you make several changes over the summer, players need time to rebuild those connections. Mo is no exception.”
After opening the season with seven straight wins in all competitions, Liverpool have lost three consecutive league matches and now sit fourth in the table, four points behind leaders Arsenal.
Jeremie Frimpong and goalkeeper Alisson Becker are both sidelined with hamstring injuries, while Slot awaits fitness updates on Alexander Isak, who picked up a groin problem in midweek, and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
