At least six workers sustained burn injuries following an explosion at a factory in the BSCIC Industrial Area of Narayanganj on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 8:30am at M S Dyeing, Printing and Finishing factory.
The injured workers were rushed to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition. They have been identified as Al Amin, 30, Azizullah, 32, Selim, 35, Jalal Molla, 40, Nazmul Huda, 35, and Nur Mohammad, 35, a security supervisor at the factory.
Workers from the factory said they were working in the boiler room on the ground floor when a loud explosion occurred due to a gas line leak. Flames spread instantly, leaving six people severely burned.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, residential surgeon at the Burn Institute, said, “All the victims are receiving emergency treatment, and their conditions are critical. We are assessing the extent of burns on each patient to determine the course of treatment.”
He added that among the six patients, two are in the ICU while three are admitted to the general ward. The condition of the two in the ICU is critical. Another patient, who has burns covering 2% of the body, is under observation and is expected to be discharged soon.
