A youth has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for attempting to cast a fake vote at a polling centre in Ullapara, Sirajganj.
On Thursday at 3pm, the mobile court, presided over by Executive Magistrate Ehsan Ahmed Khan, handed down the sentence.
The convict, Rubel Hossain, is the son of Altaf Hossain of Koyra Upazila’s Charpara village.
Ullapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer ATM Arif said Rubel Hossain arrived at Koyra Fazil Madrasa polling centre around 1.30pm to cast a fake vote.
He was immediately detained by officials upon detection. The mobile court subsequently sentenced him to two years in prison.
The swift action underscores the authorities’ zero-tolerance stance on electoral malpractice and ensures transparency at the polling stations.
