Last Thursday, reports emerged that Zubeen Garg had died from drowning while swimming, rather than during a scuba diving session. The rumour was confirmed on Friday when the Singapore authorities handed over the official autopsy report to the singer’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg.
The report clearly states that Zubeen’s death occurred due to drowning while swimming off an island in Singapore, not during scuba diving, as previously speculated.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has also provided a copy of the autopsy report, along with preliminary findings, to the Indian High Commission. In addition, SPF officials have spoken directly with Garima Saikia Garg regarding the case.
Zubeen had travelled to Singapore to take part in the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of India–Singapore diplomatic relations, as well as the anniversary of India–ASEAN tourism.
The Singapore authorities have clarified that the police investigation into the singer’s death remains ongoing. They have urged fans and the public not to circulate any photos or videos related to the incident on social media.
At the start of the inquiry, Singapore officials had already ruled out the possibility of foul play.
As part of the continuing investigation, Singapore police have questioned several individuals, while the Assam Police have arrested two more people suspected of involvement in the case.
Earlier, the police had detained Zubeen’s manager, Siddharth Sharma and festival organiser, Shyamkanu Mahanta. On Wednesday, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amrit Prabha Mahanta were also arrested.
So far, a total of four people have been taken into custody in connection with the singer’s death.
