The central committee of the BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has issued a show-cause notice to Shaikh Tanvir Baree Hamim, the convener of the Kabi Jasimuddin Hall unit at Dhaka University (DU), for allegedly breaching organisational discipline.
Hamim was the general secretary (GS) candidate for the JCD panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election.
A notice signed by Office Secretary Md Jahangir Alam on Friday stated that Hamim must appear at the central office within 24 hours. He is required to provide a written explanation to the President and GS to why the disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
The committee reached this decision following directives from President Rakibul Islam Rakib and GS Nasir Uddin Nasir. While the notice did not specify the exact nature of the disciplinary breach, Rakib informed TIMES of Bangladesh that the move followed a violation of the “chain of command”.
However, in a Facebook live video on Saturday night, Hamim claimed he is still unaware of the specific reasons for the show-cause notice. He further alleged that he received no specific answer after telephoning the central office secretary to clarify the grounds of the allegation.
Hamim mentioned that he had organised an iftar and a Quran recitation competition for Dhaka University students on Thursday. He suggested that this event might be the reason behind the show-cause notice.
