Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan said he will accept the result if any allegation against him is proven in the complaint about Shakib Al Hasan.
The former interim government sports adviser and spokesperson of the National Citizen Party spoke on Friday evening, February 27. He made the remarks after an iftar program held at Shyampur Police Station in the capital.
He was asked about the complaint filed at the Anti Corruption Commission over Shakib Al Hasan. In response, Asif said, “A mob was created and a complaint was submitted to the ACC because Shakib Al Hasan was not allowed to play. If any allegation against me is proven at the ACC, I am ready to accept it.”
He also said, “I said that Shakib Al Hasan had no moral right to wear the Bangladesh jersey for opposing the July mass uprising and endorsing Sheikh Hasina. If that is corruption, I am ready to accept the punishment.”
The complaint was filed a day earlier. On Thursday afternoon, February 26, a group of fans of former Awami League lawmaker and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan went to the ACC office. They submitted a complaint against former interim government youth and sports adviser Asif Mahmud.
ACC sources said 20 to 30 people gathered at the office while chanting slogans in support of Shakib. They later handed over the written complaint.
At the iftar event, Asif also spoke about his party’s plans. He said, “The National Citizen Party wants to build a new style of politics by solving civic problems.” He said the party has started regular public outreach programs ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Ward level and central leaders of the National Citizen Party were present at the event. Asif said the party will identify ward based problems and work to solve them.
