Actress Shabnur has strongly rejected recent claims linking her to the death of popular actor Salman Shah, describing the allegations as false and baseless.
Shabnur said Salman was a beloved co-star and someone she regarded like an elder brother.
She stressed that she had no involvement in his death and questioned why a UK-based man, Rizvi Ahmed, had recently made contradictory claims about her.
Rizvi has reportedly made different statements in recent interviews, including allegations that Shabnur blackmailed Salman and claims about a romantic relationship and marriage with the actress.
Shabnur dismissed the claims, pointing out that she had never met Rizvi in person and was not even in the UK during the period when he alleged they had married and divorced.
She also questioned his changing statements about Salman Shah’s death, saying he had previously presented himself as a witness but has now claimed that Salman died by suicide.
“Salman Shah was my dear co-star and like an elder brother to me. I had absolutely nothing to do with his death,” Shabnur said.
The actress has also called for an impartial and comprehensive investigation into Salman Shah’s death, saying those responsible should be brought to justice.
Her comments come as the investigation into the case has gained fresh momentum.
Actor Ashraful Haque, popularly known as Don Haque, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder case and later handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Salman Shah died on 6 September 1996 at his residence in Dhaka’s Eskaton area.
His death has remained the subject of controversy for nearly three decades.
A murder case was filed last year following a court order, naming 11 people, including Salman Shah’s former wife Samira Haque, actor Don Haque and Rizvi Ahmed.
The CID is currently investigating the case, with the next report submission scheduled for 30 August.
