Police have recovered the severed head of a man from a maize field in Manikganj, days after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) identified a headless body found in the same area.
Members of the Baniajuri Investigation Centre recovered the head on Sunday morning from a maize field along a riverbank in Dighulia area of Manikganj Sadar. Police believe the head belongs to Rafik Mia, whose headless body was recovered from nearly two kilometres away, four days earlier.
Earlier, PBI identified the victim as Rafik Mia, a resident of Rathuria village in Baniyajuri Union under Ghior upazila, using fingerprint analysis and the National Identity Card database.
Superintendent of Police of PBI, Manikganj, Joyita Shilpi said the attackers slit Rafik’s throat, severed his head and dumped it in the river.
“We suspect the recovered head belongs to Rafik. We will confirm it through forensic examination,” she said.
In connection with the case filed after the recovery of the body, PBI arrested three suspects: Md Ripon Mia, 30, from Rathra village in Ghior upazila; Arman Hossain, 20, from Pachbarail village in Sadar upazila; and Sajib Hossain, 25, from the same area.
According to the case statement and police sources, Rafik Mia, a battery-run easy-bike driver, went missing on Tuesday around 10am after leaving home with his vehicle.
Police recovered his headless body the following Wednesday afternoon from the bank of the Kaliganga River in Pachbarail village under Sadar upazila.
