Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has called on party leaders and activists to work for the welfare of all people, regardless of race, religion or caste, saying serving people during times of crisis is a moral duty.
He made the remarks on Saturday during a brief roadside meeting in the Bhurghata Majid Bari area of Kalkini municipality in Madaripur while travelling to Barishal to attend a divisional rally.
Local leaders, activists and supporters gathered along the Dhaka-Barishal highway at around 7:30am to greet the Jamaat chief before he addressed the gathering.
Shafiqur said every party worker had a moral responsibility to stand beside the public and ensure prompt assistance during any disaster.
He also urged party activists to prioritise humanity, justice and public service in their work, saying these values were essential to earning the trust and confidence of the people.
