The Bangladesh government has stepped up security measures around the US Embassy in Dhaka’s Baridhara diplomatic zone following concerns over a possible terrorist attack.

According to officials, a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was deployed to the embassy premises after 10pm on Monday, following a formal request from the embassy.

When contacted, officers at Gulshan Police Station declined to comment on the matter. Similarly, Deputy Commissioner of the Diplomatic Security Division Nure Alam refrained from making any remarks, saying only, “Details will be shared later.”

The US Embassy has not issued any immediate statement regarding the reported security threat or the SWAT deployment. However, the move to strengthen security came after the embassy sent an official letter to the authorities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for Gulshan Zone Masud Alam said, “Considering the potential security risk, security measures have been further reinforced in and around the embassy area.”
