Allegations have surfaced against a BNP leader for beating and injuring a sand trader in Palash upazila of Narsingdi.
Mohiuddin Chishtia, joint secretary of the Ghorashal municipality unit of BNP, allegedly bit the ear of Sakhawat Hossain, causing wounds.
Sakhawat is currently undergoing treatment at Palash Upazila Health Complex, with four stitches in his ear and injuries to several parts of his body.
The incident took place Monday afternoon in front of Bangladesh Jute Mills in the Ghorashal municipality area.
Sakhawat said he had installed a dredger machine on the bank of the Shitalakhhya River for sand filling work at a TK Group construction site inside Bangladesh Jute Mills.
After paying wages to the workers in the afternoon, four men on motorcycles picked him up from the road and took him to the house of BNP leader Mohiuddin, the victim said.
He was confined there for about an hour, during which Mohiuddin and 6–7 others punched and slapped him repeatedly. At one point, Mohiuddin bit his ear, causing bleeding, accusing him of installing the dredger without informing him.
They then threatened him to remove the dredger quickly and leave the area. Later, with the help of locals, Sakhawat went to the health complex for treatment.
When asked, Mohiuddin said: “Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan sir has a programme in the morning. I am going to sleep now. Later, the facts will be clarified in a video statement.”
Palash Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge (OC) Shahed Al‑Mamun said police were sent to the hospital after receiving information. “We have not yet received any written complaint. Action will be taken if a complaint is filed,” he added.
