Nearly three decades have passed since the mysterious death of iconic Bangladeshi actor Salman Shah, yet the controversy surrounding it refuses to fade.
Now, the late star’s younger brother, Shahran Chowdhury, has reignited discussion with an emotional Facebook Live session that directly addressed Samira Haque, Salman’s former wife and one of the key accused in his death case.
In the 34-minute live broadcast, Shahran said at the outset, “I usually don’t go live on Facebook, but today I must speak. My intention is not to hurt anyone, only to tell the truth.”
With a trembling voice, he spoke directly to Samira: “My brother loved you deeply. Think back to why you chose him, why you married him, why you left your family to be with him. You must have seen something special in him then. Even when your family didn’t accept the relationship, ours never turned you away.”
Becoming emotional, Shahran continued, “Some people claim my brother was suicidal. But think about it; until he met you, Salman Shah lived a cheerful, normal life. That argument simply doesn’t hold.”
Expressing his disappointment, he added, “I tried calling you; you didn’t answer. Maybe you’re older now, maybe you’ve forgotten many things. I don’t wish to insult you, but remember why you came to Dhaka from Bogura, where you stayed. I know it all. I won’t reveal it, but I’ll say this: ask Allah for forgiveness for your actions.”
Towards the end of the live stream, Shahran called on all 11 accused in the Salman Shah murder case to repent: “Seek forgiveness from Allah for what you’ve done.”
Salman Shah, one of Bangladesh’s most beloved film stars, died on September 6, 1996.
While his wife Samira Haque claimed it was suicide, Salman’s family has long insisted that it was a planned murder: a claim that continues to fuel speculation and heartbreak among his fans to this day.
