Salman Khan’s upcoming military drama Maatrubhumi, previously announced as Battle of Galwan, could face another delay as the film reportedly encounters clearance issues ahead of its theatrical release.
According to Hindustan Times, the film, based on the 2020 India-China border clashes, has come under scrutiny from India’s Ministry of Defence following recent diplomatic developments between the two countries. Officials have reportedly raised concerns over the film’s sensitive geopolitical subject matter and its direct references to China, delaying the clearance process.
Despite the setback, the producers are still trying to secure a theatrical release by the end of this year. However, if the issues remain unresolved, the film could be pushed to 2027.
“The issues are yet to be resolved. Even if they are resolved soon, it will now be difficult to secure a good release slot, as most major dates have already been taken,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The source added that Maatrubhumi could still benefit from a release around Dussehra, which falls on Tuesday, 20 October, this year. With the preceding Monday also expected to attract holiday audiences, the film could enjoy an extended five-day weekend at the box office.
The source further noted that Ramayana is expected to move its release to 30 October. Apart from that, no major releases are currently scheduled until the final week of November, which could also work in Maatrubhumi’s favour.
