Indian actress Swastika Mukherjee has apologised to contestants and the studio audience after her voice turned hoarse while she was hosting the daily reality show ‘Didi No. 1’.

Swastika, who recently took over as the host of the popular programme from longtime presenter Rachna Banerjee, said hosting a daily television show has presented a new challenge for her.

Although she has hosted several award ceremonies in the past, presenting a daily reality show requires her to speak continuously for long periods, unlike the comparatively limited demands of film or web-series work.

Addressing the contestants and audience, Swastika said, “Please forgive me. Forgive me as one of your own. Today my voice sounds like a frog.”

She explained that continuous exposure to the cold air conditioning on the shooting set had strained her throat. The production team cannot switch off the air conditioning because the numerous studio lights generate considerable heat.

Swastika also noted that spending long hours in air conditioning can naturally lead to a cold, adding to the discomfort affecting her voice.

Despite the physical strain, the actress has continued hosting the show with determination and has carried on with her professional commitments.
