Legendary singer Runa Laila will perform a solo concert on 18 July at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, organisers and the artiste have confirmed the media.
Runa Laila recently returned to Bangladesh after spending more than a month in the United States for family commitments. Since her return, she has been busy preparing for the concert.
The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has been organising a series of solo concerts featuring the country’s celebrated artistes since last year. The academy previously hosted special performances by Sabina Yasmin and Syed Abdul Hadi. Runa Laila will now take the stage as part of the ongoing initiative.
Speaking about the concert, Runa Laila said such events play an important role in introducing the country’s rich musical legacy, songs and memories to younger generations of listeners.
She said she plans to perform some of the audience’s favourite songs during the programme.
Reflecting on her career, the singer said she has performed at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy only two or three times in her 62-year professional music career, but this will be her first-ever solo concert at the venue.
She expressed hope of spending a memorable evening with the audience.
Later this month, Runa Laila is scheduled to travel to Australia, where she will perform at several events.
