Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project located in Ishwardi, Pabna to observe the project’s progress firsthand and exchanged views with project officials.
During the visit, made last Friday, he spoke with the workers and engineers engaged in project implementation and praised their tireless efforts, according to a press release.
He expressed optimism that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, as the nation’s first of its kind, will play a crucial role in the nation’s power sector. He stated that the implementation of this project will play a significant role in meeting the country’s growing electricity needs while also contributing to achieving energy security and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is one of Bangladesh’s mega-projects, with construction work in its final stages, having followed all international regulations. Engineers from Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation Rosatom involved in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project informed that fuel loading for Unit-1 will be possible by the end of February 2026.
Additionally, it is hoped that approximately 350 megawatts of electricity from Unit-1 can be supplied to the national grid by the end of March 2026. Subsequently, step by step, the project will enable the effective production of about 1,150 megawatts of electricity to the national grid from Unit-1 of the power plant.
Present during the visit were Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Finance Division Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Economic Relations Division Secretary Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, and Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md Anwar Hossain.
Also present were the Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Md Mazibur Rahman, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority Mahmudul Hasan, and the Project Director of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project Md. Kabir Hossain.
