A Rohingya man was shot allegedly by Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) members at a refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on Saturday evening.
The victim, Md Saber, 25, a resident of Camp‑10, was rescued by locals and admitted to the MSF Hospital in Kutupalong.
Law enforcement sources said several armed criminals led by Jafor, an associate of Toha, the Head Majhi of Block‑H‑42 in Camp‑10, targeted Saber and opened fire before fleeing.
Mohammad Reaz Uddin Ahmed, acting commanding officer of the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), confirmed the incident. “Members of an armed criminal group fired shots to establish dominance in the area, leaving one Rohingya citizen with bullet wounds,” he said.
“Preliminary information indicates the involvement of ARSA members. The matter is being investigated with high priority, and operations are underway to identify and arrest those involved,” he added.
Reaz said the overall law and order situation in the camp remains normal. No arrests have yet been made.
Camp residents and law enforcement officials noted that disputes between armed groups over territorial control frequently lead to violent clashes.
The attack follows a similar incident Friday afternoon at Camp‑14, where armed Rohingyas opened fire on Bangladeshis, injuring a local man, Obaidul Haque Lalu. He is undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
