Four people were killed after a freight pickup truck lost control and slammed into a wall in Manikchari Army Camp area of Rangamati early Sunday morning.
The incident took place around 5:15am while the vehicle was travelling from Kalyanpur to Kutukchari market.
The deceased have been identified as Megh Rani Chakma ,45, Shanti Ranjan Chakma ,60, Shantana Chakma ,40, and Shobha Chakma.
All four victims were passengers in the pickup and were traders on their way to the weekly Sunday market in Kutukchari to sell their goods.
Two others sustained injuries in the crash: the driver, Gyaan Bikash Chakma ,50, and a passenger, Suman Chakma ,45.
Suman Chakma, who suffered a broken arm, a broken leg, and head injuries, is currently receiving treatment at Rangamati General Hospital.
According to police and locals, three of the victims died on the spot. Shobha Chakma passed away while being transported to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Jikel Chakma, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver who witnessed the incident, said he was driving behind the pickup when it suddenly struck the wall.
Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Mohammad Officer-in-charge (OC) Joshim Uddin said that the pickup was carrying raw materials when it lost control and overturned.
He confirmed that the bodies are currently at the hospital morgue and will be handed over to their families following the completion of legal formalities.
