Bangladeshi shooter Robiul Islam finished 15th out of 22 competitors in the men’s 10m air rifle qualification round at the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi on 7 February 2026.
Scoring 622.2, he fell 2.4 points short of the eighth and final qualifying position, which was claimed by India’s Vishal Singh with 624.6.
Robiul, who previously competed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, had shown strong form during practice, reportedly scoring between 628 and 631. He also recorded 624.2 at the Paris Olympics and an impressive 629.2 at the 2023 Baku World Championships.
However, his competition performance fell below expectations, a result attributed to just three weeks of preparation before the Asian Championship. India’s Babasaheb Rudraksh topped the qualification with 632.1, followed by Kazakhstan’s Nikita Shakhtorin on 629.2.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Shooting Federation had confirmed that Robiul and coach Sharmin Akter arrived safely in Delhi to compete, despite the national cricket team missing the T20 World Cup in India due to security concerns.
Aleya Ferdous, General Secretary of the federation, said: “We have been in regular contact with the Indian and Asian Shooting Federations. The safety of both shooter and coach was confirmed before travel.”
Robiul expressed satisfaction with the arrangements in Delhi, stating: “Everything has been smooth so far. Immigration was quick, and the hotel and shooting range are excellent. We have faced no issues, and the hospitality has been satisfactory.” Sharmin Akter, a former top-level shooter, accompanied him, providing guidance and ensuring the pair could adapt effectively to conditions.
